Akademi MBPJ And Akademi PKNS FC Set For Final Battle

Dateline: November 14th 2009

After 16 weeks of non stop action the finals of the National Open Junior Community Football League 2009 this Saturday at the Petaling Jaya Stadium promises an explosive affair with arch-rivals Akademi Bolasepak MBPJ taking on Akademi Bolasepak PKNS FC.

Both teams will be out to create history as inaugural champions of the league and lay their hands on the Sultan Ahmad Shah cup. MBPJ will start as favourites as they have an injury and suspension fee squad as compared to PKNS who will be missing their midfield lynchpin Mior Dani Armin Mior Ariffin, who’s serving a two match suspension after receiving a straight red card in the quarter-final match against Royal Selangor Club.

MBPJ head coach, Ahmad Jasa rates his team’s chances as 50-50. “All our previous encounters with PKNS FC have been tough and the keen rivalry will set to continue in the finals” he said after taking his boys through their training session.

“We know our opponents well but we are not about to take things lightly as PKNS, even though they will be missing the services of Mior Dani in their engine room, they have the tournaments top scorer in Shafizi Iqmal leading their attack. All I can ask from my boys is to give their best and follow the game plan. We need to be focused as any mistake in a final can be costly,” he added.

Ahmad Jasa will again rely on his attacking trio of Nur Muhammad Shafik Azahari, Arwin Raj and Muhammad Shami Safari to get the goals.

PKNS FC head coach Mat Rashid Zainot is taking the suspension of Mior Dani in his stride. “Well there is nothing much we can do now as the boy has to learn from his mistakes. We will certainly miss him but we have to carry on and we have able replacements,” said coach Rashid.
Rashid rates his team’s chances as 50-50 and judging from their previous encounters predicts a hard battle. “Both teams know each other so well. I have been telling my boys that the finals will demand the best from them and I to expect only the best from them. The match can go either way as both teams have capable players who can change the course of the game,” he further added.

Looking back at the semi-final match against Akademi Soccerkids, Rashid will build his midfield around the hardworking Muhammad Adib Hakimi. The tenacious Adid is a delight to watch with hard running and take no prisoner attitude earning him the nickname ‘Gattuso, after the AC Milan and Italy star Gennaro Gattuso.

Besides the Sultan Ahamad Cup, the champions will stand to receive RM10, 000.00 in prize money while the runners-up will receive RM5, 000.00 and the 3rd and 4th placed teams will receive RM1,500.00 and RM1,000.00 respectively.

The finals will start at 5.30pm while the curtain raiser will be the match between Malaysia Ex-Internationals and National Junior League Coaches at 4.30pm. The 3rd and 4th placing match between Gen Pro and Akademi Soccerkids will take place at 3.30pm.
